Current Projects
I-59 South
People are found murdered along the highways leading from Ohio to New Orleans. There, in the
Big Easy, more crimes ensue and then appear to all but stop for a time. A journalist, Paige Turner,
is the only one piecing the crimes together as the clues are found in a suave young man who
seems to know the story. But who is this Dennis Joseph he talks about with such admiration and
where do the roads lead?
This novel, due out by Masked Man Media in Spring 2012, is my first and was begun in 1995,
revised in 1998 and completed in 2001. The screenplay version, begun in 2003, hit the
independent market in 2005 and is at the pre-production stage.
T.H.A.W. - Time Heals All Wounds
President Sidney Cavanaugh has achieved success beyond his wildest dreams. He is leader of the
free world in 2040 and is serving his second term when a Reagan-era project, which Cavanaugh
funds to the utmost in his first term, comes full-circle. He can rectify a long lost love affair but not
without fate, G-d, or those closest to him attempting to intervene. It's another Paige Turner novel
set for Holidays 2012.
The Diary of Mary Chesnut
Based upon the actual diary of a Conferderate, upper-crust Colonel's wife during the American
Civil War, this work is to be presented in only a screenplay format. It is with high hopes that the
work can be a I am Woman Hear me Roar meets Gone With the Wind type view. The work takes
place, as does the actual diary of course, entirely from the viewpoint of a woman with an inside
track on the aristocratic Southern life, without ever showing the war from the war's side. For
women, much of the War of Northern Aggression was seen and understood only from their
homes, from the streets, newspapers, and at their tables before bedtime. Not just another war
novel or film (yes, the screenplay is on its heels.)
Destiny
My first venture into musical theater. Having met a marvellously talented songwriter, Maryum
Cooper, we decided to venture into waters unknown: namely an inner city musical based upon
various musical pieces she'd written. A far cry from my normal comfort zone (that of dark drama),
the play deals with a main character coming to realize that life outside the neighborhood is not
the piece of the pie she'd craved. As a local woman, whose seen it all, tells her, it's time to get up
out of her seat.
That Book - by Benjamin S. Johnson
A compilation of short stories that I've been collecting for years. The tough part will be gathering
all the various materials from the newspapers, teachers, floppy disks, etc., where all are located,
and including those narratives into one place. It'll be a wild ride through my mind when
completed. Humor, bizarre, murderous, political, and amorous. Well, we'll just have to see.
Shards on the Floor
Short story about what happens to a writer who, having written all his life about the darker side
of human nature, comes to face his own mortality. What might G-d have to say about such an
author?
